Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast is recalling its first batch of vehicles in the U.S. due to a dashboard display error that poses a safety risk.

The safety warning was issued by U.S. authorities after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that the company’s VF 8 vehicles have a software malfunction in the dashboard display. The screen reportedly goes blank while stationary or driving, which “may increase the risk of a crash.”

“VinFast is not aware of any field reports of incidents. The company is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution,” the company said in a statement to Reuters.

According to the NHTSA, the error has been documented 18 times. The safety agency estimates more than 700 of the 999 units in the U.S. have yet to be delivered to customers or fleet services.

To solve the problem, VinFast will reportedly introduce a software update that is scheduled to go live on May 25 along with notification letters to owners.

The recall comes shortly after VinFast announced plans to list in the U.S. via a merger with special purpose acquisition company Black Spade Acquisition Co.

The companies believe that VinFast would have a potential equity value of $23 billion.
